This was one of the best lab experiments we have done. When we combined the indicators and solutions we got so exited because the color change was so cool. The color changed instantly and it looked like one solution was eating the other one. My hypothesis was wrong on some colors but correct on others. I thought that water wouldn't change into a different color than the indicator color but it did, when you combine methyl red and methyl orange with water, you get yellow. Amazing! The pH indicators are really good to indicate what value on the pH scale it shows. It was a fun experiment!
Phenolphthalein: Good to measure strong bases. Methyl Red: Wide range, good for acids.
Bromothymol: Wide range, detects acids good.
Methyl Orange: Wide range, detects mostly acids.
